immersion (mis)adventures part 1
this is a rather late post. immersion ended april 20. to cut short this intro, i haven't had much time since i got home from immersion (due to the freaking consti project). i only knew of my internship assignment when we got back from immersion during the send off dinner. anyway...
random thoughts about immersion na lang kasi i don't wanna make this entry sound like a blow by blow account of the immersion (hehe!)
anyway, i got paired off with peng (absorber ng kababawan ko) and was with lovely (tagalauto) and flory (entertainer). our group was kinda big (16 interns plus around 8 facilitators & lawyers) but the 4 of us were kinda isolated. the going to our areas was different from the paths the others were taking. so there...
we actually got away taking a jeep going to the area (much to my delight) instead of walking for 4-5 hours under the scourging heat of the sun. hehe! Ü we spent around 6 days there in the area with the aetas. oh, we actually walked up the mountain for an hour and i vomitted after. hehe! Ü
small stuff i appreciated while in the mountains:
1. black coffee (with sugar at least) READ: instant
2. vehicles with wheels that make travelling easier
3. cellphones (we were actually deprived of our phones for the entire duration of the immersion. wala naman kasi signal sa bundok)
4. electricty (walang kuryente dun)
5. food (it's really hard to get rice there. then i learned to appreciate instant noodles with sardines and malunggay on it)
another thing, when walking in the mountains with aetas as guides, never ask them "malapit na?" because they would give you a positive answer and malapit for them means another mountain or two to climb. also, when they say "short cut," it means short cut and hard way.
we also encountered a snake which kuya romy (our aeta guide) chopped into two. i actually freezed when i heard peng tell kuya romy that there was a snake. then when it was already chopped into two, i still didn't want to look at it so i ran not looking at it. hehe!
anyway, more immersion misadventures next time... the internet shop here (in palawan) is about to close
i miss my bed...
