proudly lasallian

i was studying in starbucks (rockwell drive) yesterday. (stayed there until 3am... hehe!) in the midst of my reading and people-watching (i usually multi-task. yeah right, haha!), i noticed a couple who sat in the table adjacent to mine. the girl looked rather familiar. she probably became my classmate in a subject in la salle or probably she's one of the people i often see in the miguel building. to confirm that she's a liberal arts student, she was the typical CLA student, maporma and all. (CLA students are not all porma, we're well-rounded students who understand the word "fashion." hehe!) suffice it to say that she's a la salle student.

they stayed there for quite some time. (no, i didn't listen to their conversation, hindi ako ganun ka-chismoso) this was what struck me the most. after drinking their coffee, the girl got the used pieces of tissue paper on the table, took of the lid of the cup, and neatly tucked the tissue paper inside the cup. afterwards, she got the 2 cups, hers and her (boy)friend's, and threw them in the trash can.

i don't know he personally and i don't know if she was brought up to clean the table and throw away the trash before leaving. but what instantly came to my mind was the CLAYGO (Clean as you go) campaign in la salle (which incidentally is the pet project of the DLSU council of student organizations). i remember during the initial years of the CLAYGO campaign (i was in 1st year then), we used to go around the canteens encouraging the people to clean their table, throw their trash, and place the used plates and utensils in the depository areas. it was a culture that we sought to imbibe in every lasallian. i think and i would like to believe that this culture was already acquired by her (the CLA girl).

more than the so-called lasallian "achievers" who are featured in the bulletin boards and plastic stands around campus and given the label "proudly lasallian," people such as this CLA girl are equally worth (if not more deserving) of praise and admiration. though "unnamed," these are the lasallians whom we should all emulate and be proud of. and who says lasallians are apathetic and simply don't care? certainly not me.

ANIMO LA SALLE!
